Ray Cook Captures 'Tuckasee Toilet Bowl Classic' Victory at Clarksville! (BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) March 5, 2007 - Fresh off a strong Top Five finish in the recent 'Bama Bash' at the Green Valley (AL) Speedway, Ray Cook captured his first feature victory of the 2007 racing season over the weekend at the Clarksville StormPay.com Speedway in Clarksville, Tennessee! The driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" set the second fastest time in his group during time trials on Friday, March 2 and later won his heat race to earn the pole position for the 75-lap A-Main on Saturday. Ray, who was aboard his familiar Arvil Cook Property Investments / Youngblood Concrete / Jacky Jones Automotive Group / A+ Moving & Storage / Hamrick's of Gaffney #53 MasterSbilt / Grover Ford Fusion led all 75 laps during the feature on Saturday to record the $10,000 payday ahead of Mike Marlar, Tyler Landers, Justin Rattliff, and Billy Mayo. The win was not easy for the Brasstown, North Carolina native; however, as he had to work lapped traffic to perfection to bring home the victory. On lap thirty-four, Ray was forced to slow for the lapped car of Eric Hickerson and was hit from behind while checking up for Hickerson. However, no serious damage resulted from the incident and Ray was able to drive his #53 to victory lane to claim the $10,000 winnings and the unusual trophy that comes along with winning the 'Tuckasee Toilet Bowl Classic.' The Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) sanctioned race was taped by the cameras of Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) for an upcoming broadcast on April 1! “That was a really good win for us, but it wasn’t easy,” quoted Cook in
a telephone conversation today. “I qualified well and then won the heat race
to earn the pole position for the feature, so that got us off to a good start.
Once I got out front during the feature on Saturday though, I had to survive a
couple of scares with lapped cars to get the win. After a rough start to our
season in Florida, we have rebounded with a couple of strong weekends, so
hopefully we can continue that momentum throughout the season. The Ray Cook Racing team will be back in action this coming weekend, most likely at the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Saturday night, March 10. If the weather holds out, Ray will battle the cars and stars of the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series and will vie for the $5,000 top prize next Saturday evening at the northern Georgia facility.
