DONNIE MORAN SCORES BIG OVER WEEKEND
Dresden, OH - 4/18 - Donnie Moran of Dresden ,OH scored his second Stacker2(r) Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned main event victory of the 2004 season Saturday night April 18 at New 311 Speedway located near Madison, NC. Starting third, Moran, driving his QPI Tools Dirt Ripper, Eddie's Sunoco, MasterSbilt Race Cars, SMS Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo #99 grabbed second from Brian Birkhofer on the third lap. Moran then worked early race leader Matt Miller for the next three circuits until powering underneath of Miller for the lead exiting turn two while working lap six. Once in front Moran opened a huge lead on the field feeling no pressure the rest of the way pocketing the $10,000 to win "Tar Heel State 50". Brian Birkhofer rode home second nearly two seconds behind Moran with Jimmy Mars third, 9th starting Ray Cook fourth and Darren Miller fifth.
"Everything worked out great!" stated Moran in victory lane. "The MasterSbilt Race Car, the SMS Racing Engine, the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tires, the crew, what more can I say. Everything could go about as good as you could want. Once we got the lead it was just run your line, work the traffic and basically stay out of trouble. The car would go wherever I needed it. Low, middle, high. It didn't matter. Nothing is ever perfect but it was real close tonight."
The racing action from New 311 Speedway was captured by the cameras of Speed Channel and will be broadcast, Saturday, April 24 at 3:00pm EDT.
With his second Stacker 2 XDCS victory Moran was able to tie Jimmy Mars for the points lead for the national Stacker 2 XDCS points standings. Moran is also the first driver in 2004 to win more than once on the highly competitive Stacker 2 XDCS tour.
Moran was also quick to give credit to his newly assembled crew for his outstanding night.
"It's probably one of the best crews I've had put together since Rhonda and David (Garber) were with me," revealed Moran. "I always have to say Rhonda and David were the best because they were with me when I got started and was learning and the things we did together. But for right now this is a group of guys that are probably the best I ever had second to them. I have had good individual people but not a whole crew assembled like I have now."
Moran's crew consists of Tim Marshall, Wally Adams and Brent Chance.
Moran was also quick to praise Mastersbilt chassis on getting the job done this season.
"Its awesome," Moran flatly declared. "Actually people didn't realize that after we went to Eldora last year and I didn't make the race I went back to some stuff I did four or five years ago with some suspension things and set ups and just went to a basic deal and went back to it and did a different shock program and I said this is what I'm doing and this is what I like. And the week after Eldora I led the Xtreme race down south and then I hooked a rut. We were real good at Lowe's but I had ignition troubles, but we were real good after that."
Moran's next event will be Friday April 23 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA for a World of Outlaws Late Model Series race. It's been a number of years since Moran has raced at Lernerville, where he holds the track record of 15.67 set an incredible 20 years ago.
The Stacker2(r) Xtreme DirtCar Series will next compete at the Auto Tire & Parts Race Park in Benton,MO with a 50 lap - $10,000 to win event scheduled for Friday, April 30.
