Bureau Co Speedway 8-11-06 results By Kathy Costerisan – Princeton, IL - 08/11/06 - Over two and a half inches of rain fell on the track at Bureau County Speedway Thursday and it left the inside a little swampy. But the racing surface was extremely fast, even kicking up a little dust. Mr. Smooth, Josh Vinnedge, picked up his fifth Modified feature win of the season. Once again, he ran consistent laps, hitting his marks and pulling away from the field in the process. Joe Adam ran in second until a flat tire sent him to the pits for a change with seven to go. Mike Garland picked up the third place spot only to bring out the caution himself a couple of laps later when he clipped the grandstand wall. Marty Thompson was running second behind Vinnedge but couldn’t get anywhere near him to try to make a pass. Kevin Thompson battled with Brian Carrington for several laps to take over third place. His brother Jimmy passed Carrington on the last lap for a fourth place finish. Vinnedge took the win followed by the Thompson trio, Marty, Kevin and Jimmy. Brian Carrington placed fifth ahead of Casey Lappin. Joe Adam came back through the field to finish seventh. Jeff “Bone” Larson put on another driving show as he led all 25 laps of the Kramer Garage Door Late Model feature. Larson just walked away from the field, even when the race was realigned for a caution. Jerry Pitts picked up a heat win and ran second for most of the feature. Travis Rokey was the car that was on the move. Rokey was flying on the high side of the track. He was able to get by Pitts with one lap to go to finish second after starting in tenth place. Richie Bell finished fourth ahead of Matt Moon. Larson’s win was his eighth of the season. The Street Stock class is always very competitive and Friday was no exception. Jamie Balensiefen and Richie Bell, who was driving the 911 car, led the first lap. Balensiefen pulled ahead with Nathan Balensiefen right on him. After five laps Randy Lucas would pass Bell to take over third place. The caution came out when Angie Carrington tapped Marty Gradert and he spun on the front stretch. On the restart the leaders bunched up and Nathan Balensiefen was pushed into the turn three tires which broke his front end suspension and ended his night. When the race resumed, Jamie Balensiefen retained the lead with Bell right behind him. Bell would bring out the caution with one lap to go. When the race went green, Randy Lucas jumped to the top of the track to try to make a pass right at the cone. Eric Whittington was also on the move and he tried the inside. Balensiefen went to the top to put a block move on Lucas causing him to slow up and Whittington to charge into second place just at the checkered flag. This was Balensiefen’s first win of the year. He and Lucas had gone into the racing program tied for second place in the overall point standings. Justin Rutledge had wrecked in the heat race but it didn’t stand in his way in the feature as he moved up from a 14th starting position to finish fourth. Jeff Seitz won his seventh Dual Hornet feature Friday night. He passed the leader, Rob Hammitt after only three laps and was never challenged again for the lead. Kyle Fisher passed Hammitt to take over second with seven laps to go. Dave Roggy finished fourth. Trent Peterson had been running in sixth when he spun out Tim Provenzano on the last lap. Provenzano was awarded a fifth place finish while Peterson was put to the rear of the field. Roy Alm is tied with Jeff Larson for the highest number of feature wins with 8 each after Friday night’s program. Jarrod Galli passed Alm on the second lap of the Single Hornet feature and led six laps. Then his car broke and he slid into the turn four wall. This gave Alm the lead and he was only challenged one time by the second place car of Jimmy Johnson. Alm took the win followed by Johnson, Whittington and JR Brown. The racing program was completed well before 10 p.m. Next Friday will be the
Late Model Season championship race with double points awarded to that division.
The other classes will have their Season Championship races on Friday, Sept. 1st
following the break for the Bureau County Fair. Going into this week’s program
Richie Bell currently holds the point lead with a 40 point lead over Jason
Jaggers. Bryan Moon only 16 points behind in third and Jeff Larson is 28 points
behind Moon in fourth.
