Hershel Roberts Takes His First Win of the Year at Quad City Speedway

East Moline, IL 9/3/06 by Ed Potter - About opening time Sunday at Quad City Speedway a light rain started, but the fans and the racers stuck around for a great night of racing. As all the cars in the pit area came to the racing surface to pack it in the fans stayed . The first feaure to hit the track was the Late Model feature. First heat winner, Leroy Brenner took the lead over Hershel Roberts and John Freeman on the drop of the green flag. After a couple of single car cautions the pack was kept tight, and Roberts took the lead on lap fourteen, and the caution flew again for the last time in the race. On the restart Roberts held on to the lead with Jeff Morris coming from fifth to move into second. Roberts continued on never looking back for his first win of the year in front of a wildly cheering crowd. Morris held on for second over a hard charging Rick Wages. Adam Oppendike was third with Nate Beuseling rounding out the top five.

On a last lap charge Brendan Durbin moved into take second with Peters holding on for third. Shaune Lewis was fourth with Jim Willert fifth. Jeff Morris took the other heat
Kevin Dickey took the early lead of the B Modified feature and held it through lap seven dispite a couple of cautons by that time. On lap eight Jake Waterman edged by Dickey to take the point and the caution flew again. On the restart Waterman stretched his lead a little over Dickey with Brad Pershy putting the pressure on Dickey. Waterman went on for the win with Dickey holding on for second. Craig Crawford moved in to take third with Pershy holding on for fourth. Nathan Hall rounded out the top five.Brad Lucy and Greg Durbin took the heat wins.
Using his pole position starting spot Korey Peterson took the lead of the Street Stock feature, but by lap four he was being pushed hard by Randy Exline. As the two battled side by side Exline inched out front on lap twelve. One lap later Peteson brought out the caution and made a quick pit stop. On the restart Exline held on for the lead but a lap later Peterson came out of the pits slowly and waited for Exline taking him to the wall on the last lap. Peterson was disqualifid and Exline took the win as he was leading on the white flag lap. Rob Henry came from nineth to take second with Dave Wadsager third, Toby Spicer fourth and Chris Hambright fifth. Matt Werner and Spicer won the heats.

It was Holidays in September night at the race track with the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus greeting the kids as they came in the front gates. After the races the kids trick or treated the drivers under the grandstands due to the mud in the pit area.
