Broken Nozzle Line Foils
Hillier at Lake Ozark Speedway
LAKE OF THE OZARKS, MO (May 12) – Chad Hillier appeared to be on his
way to the best finish of his World of Outlaws career Saturday at Lake
Ozark Speedway when a broken nozzle line sent him to the pits.
“We were rolling around pretty good in the feature,” the driver of
the #5C DIRT Inc. Maxim said. “We were maintaining, but the track
started taking some rubber. On lap 14, we broke a #8 nozzle line off. It
broke it off where it’s welded on to the fitting. There was no way to
fix it, so we had to call it a night. We’re going to put a guard on
there this week to keep that from happening again. We were holding our
own, but we were getting better as the laps went on.”
Hillier, the fastest qualifier at Paducah International Raceway in
April, was the 11th-fastest qualifier in the 30-car field at Lake Ozark, a
semi-banked, 1/3-mile oval.
“The night started out pretty well for us,” Hillier said. “We
were the first out to qualify and the track was run in, but it wasn’t
completely blown off. We still managed to qualify 11th though. We didn’t
have a very good heat race. We were pushed above the cushion on the first
lap, but they were taking six to the feature so we made it.”
Hillier, who recorded his career-best 12th-place finish at Tri-State
Speedway on April 21st, was running 12th when the nozzle link broke
Saturday.
Hillier and his DIRT Inc. teammates will be back in action Tuesday at
Lernerville Speedway and at Williams Grove Speedway Thursday and Friday.
“We go to Sarver Tuesday for Lernerville,” Hillier said. “That’s
a pretty neat place. I’ve been there a lot, but never raced there, so I’m
excited. I have an aunt and uncle who live in Pittsburgh, so I’ll try to
get them to come out. They’re not really into racing, but we’ll try to
get them out anyway. A couple of years ago, I stayed in a hotel near there
for about a week with nothing to do. I was just hanging around, and found
out six months later they live about two miles away. I’m looking forward
to running Williams Grove, too. Both tracks are really fast and have slick
competition, so we want to qualify decent and do our best. It will be an
accomplishment just to make the show out there.”
