MSCCS Hosts Night of Champions Meridian, Mississippi (12/2/06) The Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series hosted the 2006 Night of Champions Banquet on Saturday, December 2nd in Meridian, Mississippi as Chris Wall was crowned the 2006 Champion. Wall from Holden, Louisiana had a phenomenal year picking up 12 wins on the tour en route to his first MSCCS Championship, which was worth $13,620. Wall wowed fans throughout the year with his on track performance, but he wowed many of his competitors at the banquet, when he announced that he was donating $10,000 of his first place check to the 2007 MSCCS point’s fund. “The MSCCS has been real good to me this year, and I wanted to do my part to help the tour grow in 2007,” commented Wall. Jay Blair from Angie, Louisiana finished 2nd in the point’s race and received a $6,810 check. Blair acknowledged in his acceptance speech that it was a true honor racing with the competitors of the MSCCS tour and looked forward to racing with them again in 2007. Blair visited victory lane on the tour twice in 2006. After a year off, Scott Slay from Clinton, Mississippi returned to the tour in his familiar #6 Super Late Model and finished 3rd in the final point standings. Slay picked up $4,090 for his efforts in 2006. The 2005 MSCCS Champion, David Breazeale, from Four Corners, Mississippi finished fourth in the 2006 standings and received a check for $3,000. Breazeale picked up two wins on the tour during the course of the season. Vicksburg, Mississippi native, Bub McCool, endured an up and down year to come away with a fifth place finish in the final point standings. McCool received a check for $2,500. Chad Thrash from Meridian, Mississippi was presented with the Jay Dickens Racing Engine Rookie of the Year Award, which was worth $1,000. Jay Dickens was presented with a plaque of appreciation for his sponsorship of the MSCCS RoY award. Brian Hudson was the lucky recipient of the MSCCS Fan of the Year Award. In total over $37,000 in prize money was paid out, not including the many contingency awards that were distributed throughout the night. MSCCS officials announced that the 2007 MSCCS Championship will pay $15,000 to win (based upon at least 20 events being completed), and it was also announced that the 2007 MSCCS Rookie of the Year will receive $2,500. In the next few weeks, there will be several announcements concerning the 2007 season, which is shaping up to be the most aggressive and lucrative in the tour’s history. The Promoters meeting for the MSCCS will be held this Sunday, December 10th in Meridian, Mississippi.
