July 5, 2005 - Famed National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee Brad Doty, one of the biggest stars of the 1980’s on the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and a well-known television broadcaster has donned a new hat in motorsports: promoter. Doty will be co-promoting, along with Attica Raceway park promoter Janet Holbrook, the 17th Annual Brad Doty Classic in Wednesday July 13. The World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series will be sanctioning the event. (The rain date will be July 14). “It’s the 17th annual race and its an event that keeps getting bigger and bigger,” said Doty. “I hope people know that it’s finally a World of Outlaws race which means my World of Outlaws buddies can come and legally race the event. You know for years there were conflicting dates and scheduling and the ruling they couldn’t run. But I’m really excited its World of Outlaws sanctioned.” In addition to the sanction Doty is also fired up about a new marketing partnership the race has entered into. “We just signed Mopar as the title sponsor for the race,” revealed Doty. “Things are really looking good. Obviously its my first time in the promoting business, I’m co-promoting this with Janet Holbrook so I do have a little more at stake and a little more risk involved than I ever did before but I’m really looking forward to it and by everyone I’ve talked to around the country, everyone is really excited to see the World of Outlaws back at Attica.” Doty isn’t the only one pleased with the new arrangement. "Sponsoring an event such as the Brad Doty Classic is an opportunity for Mopar to showcase our dedication to motorsports and the tradition that this event represents," said Kevin Miller, Senior Manager Brand Strategy and Performance, Mopar Parts. "Working with Brad Doty and the Attica Raceway Park personnel allows Mopar to give competitors and race fans alike a first-class racing product. A premier event like the Brad Doty Classic represents what Mopar's racing endeavors encompass. The longevity and staying power of the sport." Doty thinks it’s a perfect marriage. “Oh man, again it adds more credibility to the race,” commented The Apple Creek, OH fan favorite. “Like I said it’s the 17th annual and its just grown and grown. We have Wirtgen as a sponsor a year or so ago and Mopar, with their marketing ability behind it and obviously with Mopar most people know what it off the bat. My opinion, it just gives even more credibility to the race when Mopar or Chrysler is willing to get behind the event. It just shows how big this thing has gotten.” An added bonus is the Brad Doty Classic is slated to air on The Outdoor Channel on July 20 at 8:00 PM EST. “Yes, we’ll be taping the race and it will air on the Outdoor Channel on Wednesday night July 20 (tentatively) at 8:00 PM. We’re doing that race Wednesday, the Kings Royal on Saturday and Lernerville on Tuesday so I’m not sure how the scheduling will work out but it will be telecast.” “It will be a very, very, very busy night for me wearing a promoters hat and doing TV, but I’m so excited it’s unbelievable.” Doty is also primed for the actual racing and readily admits that the local contingent has a shot at the win. “They talk about, and we do on the TV telecast, it goes without saying the Pa Posse and the Williams Grove area is the toughest place the World of Outlaws drivers go and maybe northern California, but I’d have to say you have to throw Attica in that mix right now. One of the local guys legitimately has a shot at winning this race. And that is what’s so exciting for me and a lot of the fans that will be there. The track is really an equalizer. I wouldn’t really be surprise dif a local guy wins this thing.” And as for his first foray into race promoting Doty gives high marks to his partner, Attica Raceway Park promoter Janet Holbrook. “It’s been good, a lot of phone calls,” commented Doty. “It’s worked out really well. Like I said I am new at this so I leave the day to day operations obviously up to her. It’s her racetrack and I give her my input on what I want to do and she has been very receptive to everything I have suggested. It’ll be an exciting night. We could get a lot of cars it’s a Wednesday night.” “We’ll do everything we can to get the show off fast. There will be no support class. So hopefully we can run a tight show and get everyone in and out of there. We’ll have a T Shirt giveaway and some other things going on, we’re really going to try and make this a fun event.” Tickets can be purchased for the event by calling (614) 937-3363.
