FAP/WCS Readying For ’07 Season Kick-Off
By Jarrod Lehman

Orrville, OH - March 17, 2007 - The season opener is getting closer and closer for the opening of the 42nd year at Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH as the weekly contingent of dirt racing stars make final preparations on their Super Late Models, Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Pure Stocks & Mini Stocks to race each Saturday night. With the season lid-lifter of the season slated for Saturday March 31, a pre-season practice night will be held this Tuesday.

The ’07 Pre-Season Practice Night will be held Tuesday March 27 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM and in years past will cost $50.00 per racecar. On Saturday evening March 31 the ’07 Season Opener brought to you by Federated Auto Parts will jumpstart the ’07 racing season at the 3/8 mile banked dirt oval.

This weekend Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway is an active participant at the annual Federated Auto Parts sponsored I-X Center Autorama car show in Cleveland, OH spreading the word about FAP/WCS and it’s 2007 racing season. On display in the FAP/WCS booth was Clint Coffman’s new Barry Wright Race Cars #2c Super Late Model.

FAP/WCS owner Ernie Coffman and General Manager Chuck Griffith announced that the decision to make Race-Receivers mandatory has been on hold temporarily. “I think they are a great idea, but we want to try them out and test them before we make them mandatory,” stated track owner Ernie Coffman. “We’re going to get a couple dozen or more of them, have some of the guys and gals try them out and see how everyone likes them before we make a final decision.”

Sometime over the next several weeks, weather permitting, the parking lot will undergo a facelift and renovation. “We have 500 ton of 304 limestone on order,” explained Coffman. “Former track owner Wayne Phillips’ Phillips Excavating will be doing the work for us to get that parking lot looking good and more functional again.”

In other updated news, the 2007 division rules have been posted on the track’s website.

Drivers are also encouraged to send in their registrations early. No registrations will be accepted on opening day. The WCS Driver Registration form, found on the FAP/WCS website, needs to be filled out and sent in with a $35.00 registration fee prior to opening night. The FAP/WCS website is located at: www.waynecountyspeedway.com

Among the special events in ’07 will be the World of Outlaw Late Model Series for the FAP/WCS ‘Buckeye Classic’ on Saturday May 5 and the 12th Annual Pete Jacobs Memorial on Monday June 25 as part of the 25th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek. The 2nd Annual Summer Sizzler Labor Day Clash will be held in conjunction with Lakeville Speedway. FAP/WCS will run on September 1 & 3.

All that is left is to start the season with the addition of Sprint Cars to the weekly fold in addition to the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Pure Stocks & Mini Stocks. Last season some of the best teams in all divisions competed weekly at FAP/WCS. In 2006 in the Super Late Model division Jason Flory nailed down his career first point championship by winning four feature races and accumulating 1190 points over runner-up Charlie Duncan (1118) followed closely by Clint Coffman, Ryan Markham, Chet Alexander, J.R. Gentry, Blaine Aber, Rick Bond, Dave Hornikel and Wes Morrison, Jr. In addition to Flory’s four feature wins, Duncan scored two wins with single wins going to Doug Drown, Rick Bond, Chet Alexander, Ryan Markham and Keith Berner.

Last year in the Modifieds former Late Model driver Kyle Brown scored the championship title with 1212 markers over Bruce Jennings (1124) followed by Matt Shroyer, Barry Jacobs, Rory Reed. David Liles, Ron Miller, Allan Baker, David Bodkins and Brandon Morrow. Brown won the championship in dominating fashion with six feature wins. Rob Stambaugh scored two wins with single victories going to Mike Lonas, Joel Watson, David Liles and Barry Jacobs.

In 2006 Troy Anderson claimed another division title by winning the Pure Stocks championship in a hotly contested battle. Anderson, who accumulated 1210 points, won the point championship by a 10-point margin over Fred Snyder (1200) followed by Todd Werntz, Brad Channell, Chad Craver, Randy Nisley, Travis Mensching, Donna Canode, Rich Frame and Shawn Wassam. Anderson won two feature events with Brad Channell leading the way with five victories with Travis Mensching and Brandon Gardner each getting two wins and a single feature win copped by Frank Oriti.

Ed Ray locked up his first season championship title last year in the Mini Stocks division with 1118 points over runner-up Cody Rinard who scored 1080 markers followed by Charlie Ray, Neil Nisly, Mitch Reichard, Matt Wohlford, Bo Yarnell, Steve Miller, John Raber and Chad Young. Josh Morrow and Dale Beckett, Jr., led in the wins department with three victories each with Mike Snyder taking two wins and single victories going to Neil Nisly, Ed Ray and Charlie Ray.

In the Rookie of the Year chase in each weekly division 2006 rookie titles went to Trevor Phillips in the Super Late Models. Phillips finished 12th in the final point standings. Nick Smith scored rookie honors in the Modified division with a 13th place point finish in the final run down while Tom Fultz was crowned rookie of the year in the Pure Stocks division finishing 23rd in points with young gun Chad Young taking rookie laurels in the Mini Stock division after finishing tenth in the final season point tally.

07 Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway Schedule Released

Orrville, OH - March 9, 2007 - The 2007 schedule for the Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway racing season has been released with a jam-packed season of dirt track racing at the popular 3/8 mile oval located south of Orrville, OH that will spotlight Super Late Models, Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Pure Stocks & Mini Stocks each Saturday night. Additionally, a number of special events have been planned according to track owner Ernie Coffman and General Manager Chuck Griffith. The season opener will be held on Saturday March 31.

“The first part of the season is a little light because of potential rain we don’t want to get backed up,” commented Ernie Coffman, owner & promoter of FAP/WCS. “But boy, the Big 8 Series, I’m telling you we’ve really had a lot of people calling about that. And working with Bob Schippers at Lakeville Speedway, he is really good to work with. And with Chuck (Griffith) on board now 100% as General Manager, he will grow things in a positive area. It will be good.”

FAP/WCS’ strong weekly show will be bolstered by the return of Sprint Cars weekly for 2007. “At the very beginning I told them we’d give them at least three years,” said Coffman. “I thought we’d have a few race cars but man, those guys are building Sprint Cars for Wayne County. I think we’ll have a heck of a weekly show.”

“I agree with Ernie, the return of the Sprint Cars will provide a huge entertainment boost to our weekly race fans,” said Chuck Griffith, General Manager of FAP/WCS. “We have one of the most talent-rich fields each week in all divisions and with our special events, the return of the Faster Pastor series of races and the special activities we have planned for the fans, like the Corvette give-a-way, 2007 will be a banner season.”

The 42nd season will kick off on Saturday March 31, 2007 with all five divisions. An open practice will be held on Tuesday March 27. Times for the practice will be from 5:00 – 9:00 PM.

“The World of Outlaw Late Models will be back for our 2nd Annual Buckeye Classic, it’s something we’re going to do every year and we hope the World of Outlaws will be a part of it every year,” stated Coffman. “I think that will be another good one.”

“The Pete Jacobs Memorial is of course a (Ohio Sprint Car) Speedweek show and that’s always a good one. This Big 8 Series, we think next year it might turn into the Big 12 Series, but yes, it will be a good one, a big, big weekend over Labor Day for the 2nd Annual Summer Sizzler Labor Day Clash.”

The Big 8 Series for Super Late Models, held in conjunction with Lakeville Speedway in Lakeville, OH, will he held on June 2, June 30, August 4 & September 1. Lakeville will run the Friday night prior. Each race will pay $2,000 to win.

The Big 8 Series for Sprint Cars, held in conjunction with Lakeville Speedway, will be held on June 9, July 14, August 11 & September 3. Lakeville will run the Friday night prior. Each race will pay $2,000 to win.

If one Late Model and/or Sprint Car driver wins four of the eight Big 8 Series events that driver will earn a $25,000 bonus. Management at both tracks has also implemented a $50,000 bonus program if any Late Model and/or Sprint Car driver wins five of the races.

Chuck has been around forever, he knows everybody, he’s a good fellow, good heart and he is exactly what Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway needs now.
