Tire Rule Announced for Ray Cook's Southern Nationals Series

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) - May 17, 2006 -  With a little less than two months remaining until the second annual running of the popular Southern Nationals Series, promoter Ray Cook has announced the rear tire rule for the series.
Competitors that run with the series in 2006, which competes in ten events in a mere thirteen days, will have their choice of several compounds of both Hoosier Racing Tires and American Racing Tires. For drivers choosing to roll out with Hoosier tires, they will have the following compounds to choose from: 1350, shoulder plated 55, LM 40, and 1600. For those on American Racers, those drivers will be able to choose either 48 or 56 compounds.

The above choices of compounds are the only options for the Southern Nationals Series competitors for rear tires. There will be an open tire rule for both tire manufacturers on the front. The minimum hardness guidelines for the rear tires will be announced at the first driver’s meeting on Monday, July 10 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia.

“I have spent the last several days durometering all of the different tire makes and the tire rule that we have chosen seems to make the most sense,”
stated promoter and Dirt Late Model standout Ray Cook via telephone today.
“If we have a forty car field, we will be able to check the eighty rear tires much easier and more effectively than checking all one hundred and sixty tires. That is the reasoning behind having an open front tire rule.
By enforcing the tire rule which we came up with today, it still gives the racers a couple of different options on the rear of the car, but keeps the number of tires needed to a minimum. I think that the tire rule is very even to both Hoosier and American Racer and I think the fans are going to see some great racing action during that two week stretch in July!”

The second year series will drop the green flag for the first time on July 10 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. The series, which was won in its inaugural year by Jeff Cooke, will culminate at the ultra-quick Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee on July 22. In all, the Southern Nationals Series will feature ten events in only thirteen days. The entire schedule lines up as follows:

Monday, July 10 – Wythe Raceway, Rural Retreat, VA - $3,500 to win Tuesday, July 11 – Thunder Valley Speedway, Lawndale, NC - $3,500 to win Thursday, July 13 – Lavonia Speedway, Lavonia, GA - $3,500 to win Friday, July 14 – Modoc Speedway, Modoc, SC - $3,500 to win Saturday, July 15 – Cherokee Super Speedway, Gaffney, SC - $5,300 to win Monday, July 17 – Winchester Speedway, Winchester, TN - $3,500 to win Tuesday, July 18 – Cleveland Speedway, Cleveland, TN - $3,500 to win Thursday, July 20 – Tri-County Race Track, Brasstown, NC - $3,500 to win Friday, July 21 – Volunteer Speedway, Bulls Gap, TN - $3,500 to win Saturday, July 22 – Tazewell Speedway, Tazewell, TN - $5,300 to win

The eight events that pay $3,500 to the winner will feature a $16,560 total purse. Those events will pay $350 to the driver that finishes in the twenty-fourth and final position. The two $5,300 to win events at Gaffney and Tazewell will pay $500 to start and will feature a $22,450 purse. The series will also pay a generous point fund following the finale at Tazewell.

Ray Cook Readies for Bulls Gap, Announces New Associate Sponsor

BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA - The Ray Cook Racing team posted a strong finish
in last weekend’s O’Reilly Southern AllStar Series event at the Smoky
Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN. After qualifying sixth to give him a
third row starting spot in the $5,000 to win event, Ray drove his
Christenberry Trucking & Farms / Jacky Jones Automotive / Youngblood
Concrete Special #53 MasterSbilt / Gaerte Dodge Intrepid R/T up to third by
the end of the 50-lapper on the 3/8-mile oval. Ray was battling for the
second spot when steering problems hampered his efforts. The Brasstown,
North Carolina driver was still happy with the run despite the mechanical
woes.

“We finally finished one of our strong runs,” said Cook earlier this week.
“We were up racing for the second spot and we encountered some steering
problems. That made us fade back to fourth and then Jimmy (Owens) fell out
of the race late. The track was in great shape and I have to applaud the
track for not canceling the show after it rained right before the feature.
Hopefully we have shaken off some of that bad luck that struck us earlier in
the year.”

Ray and the team are slated to travel to the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls
Gap, TN this weekend for the annual ‘Spring Thaw’ weekend at the ultra-fast
4/10-mile, high-banked facility in eastern Tennessee. A $3,000 to win
feature event is scheduled for this Friday night, with the $10,000 to win
‘Spring Thaw’ show on the docket for the following evening. The big weekend
at Bulls Gap is being run in conjunction with the Nextel NASCAR Cup Series
event at the nearby Bristol (TN) Motor Speedway. For more information on
the event this weekend at Volunteer, log onto www.volunteerspeedway.com.

“The Tarheel Tiger” has confirmed his tentative April racing schedule, which
looks like this:
April 1 – Volunteer (TN) Speedway, UNS, $3,000 to win
April 2 – Volunteer (TN) Speedway, Spring Thaw, $10,000 to win
April 8 – The Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway, SAS, $4,000 to win
April 9 – The Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway, NARA, $10,000 to win
April 14-16 – Magnolia (MS) Motor Speedway, Governor’s Cup, $10,000 to win
April 23 – Atomic (TN) Motor Speedway, SAS, $5,000 to win
April 29 – Modoc (SC) Speedway, Carolina Clash, $4,000 to win
April 30 – Riverside (SC) Speedway, Carolina Clash, $4,000 to win

The Ray Cook Racing team would like to announce a new associate sponsor that
has joined the team this week. The Huddle House of Hiwase, GA has committed
to adorn the sheet metal of the #53 machine. Ray would like to welcome
owner Evan Harrel and is looking forward to working with him this year and
in the foreseeable future.

“We have been in negotiations with Evan for awhile now and finally struck up
a deal last week,” stated Ray. “He runs the Huddle House in Hiwase, GA and
also has a MasterSbilt car. He has agreed to help us out at an associate
level and we are going to try to help speed up his learning curve with his
MasterSbilt chassis. It should be a great partnership and I am very excited
about it!”

Ray would like to thank all of his supporters including: Bill Elliott
Racing, MasterSbilt Race Cars, Gaerte Engines, Hamrick’s of Gaffney,
Youngblood Concrete Special, Jacky Jones Automotive Group, Christenberry
Trucking & Farms, Huddle House of Hiwase, GA, AFCO Racing Products, Art’s
Radiator, Bert Transmissions, BRT Racing Products, Corporate Image, Custom

Jacksonville, FL (March 7, 2005)- The Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports Team and Earl Pearson Jr. decided to compete at the Southern-All-Stars event at Cherokee Speedway this past weekend instead of traveling to Kentucky Lake Speedway for the Northern All-Stars event. The weather and the travel distance were the main reasons the team changed plans at the last minute. Earl would head to Cherokee Speedway as the defending champion of this SAS event and was looking to repeat his win from last year.

The Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports team would miss the qualifying setup a little and qualify third in his group. Earl would finish a strong second place in his heat race to earn a 6th starting position for the $10,000 to win feature event. In the feature Earl would run near the top 5 the entire race and finish a strong 5th place in the final run down. “Our car was just a little off this weekend, but we are happy to get another top 5 finish. As long as we can consistently run in the top 5 at every event we enter we will get our share of wins in 2005”, stated Earl.

The Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports team will prepare for three events this weekend to compete in. Friday March 11th Earl and the team will head to Columbus Mississippi for the “Rebel Challenge” a 40-lap feature paying $2,000 to the winner. Then on Saturday Earl will again compete at Columbus Speedway with the 50-lap feature event paying $8,000 to the winner.
