Kingsport Speedway to 'roar back to life' May 5-6 KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 23) – The last race held at Kingsport Speedway was in the fall of 2002, but the 3/8-mile concrete oval is tentatively scheduled to roar back to life on Friday and Saturday, May 5-6. The "Model City Shootout" will headline Late Models running a $3,000 to win event which will pay $300 to start on Saturday, May 6. Also racing will be the Hobby Stock and Front Wheel Drive classes. "Joe's Big Bucks $1,000 Bonus" is up for grabs if the Late Model pole-sitter can win the race, meaning it's possible the winning driver can pocket $4,000. On Friday, May 5 the Carnesville, Ga.-based Fastrak Champions Series Crate (Dirt) Late Models will run a Mideast Region points event on the concrete at Kingsport Speedway. More information about Fastrak can be viewed by visiting their Web site at www.fastrakracing.com "Everybody has been wanting me to run a race at Kingsport Speedway for a good while now," said track owner Joe Loven. "The track has been available for someone to lease it from me to operate and hold weekly racing, but no one has stepped forward willing to do so. I realize there are a lot of asphalt cars around the region with no place to race, so I'm going to run a race sometime this spring and we'll see how well it's supported by both the racers and fans. If everything turns out well, in all likelihood more racing will be scheduled." The Late Model portion of the racing program will require the cars to conform to United Auto Racing Association (UARA) or Late Model Stock Car body rules, but under the hood it will be "run what ya brung." Cars will race on Goodyear tires. There will be a $100 entry fee for the Late Models. Volunteer Speedway Hobby Stock and Front Wheel Drives will be legal, as will Lonesome Pine Raceway Street Stock and Pure Stock 4-Cylinders. Both the Hobby Stock and Front Wheel Drive competitors can pay an advance $10 entry fee, which will be refunded at the pit gate upon sign-in. The advance entry fee can be paid only if received by April 30 (one week prior to the scheduled weekend of racing). After April 30, the $10 entry fee can only be paid on race night and it will not be refunded. The advance entry fee can be paid by mailing a money order to Volunteer Tire, 221 Shady View Road, Kingsport, TN 37660. Please send driver name, and division competing in when mailing the entry fee.
