Eckert Smashes World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Records With Another Victory!

PHENIX CITY, Alabama – June 18, 2006 - Rick Eckert is on a roll never before witnessed in World of Outlaws Late Model Series racing history. The York, Pennsylvania native captured Sunday’s $10,000 to win ‘Fathers Day 50’ at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama giving him four straight trips to COESfx Victory Lane and the Series lead in career wins with fourteen, both series records. And, toss in five wins in the last six main events and seven feature wins in fourteen completed events. Rick Eckert is definitely on a roll.

Driving the Raye Vest Racing/J&J Steel No. 24 Raye Vest Racing Rocket Chassis/Cornett Engines/Ford Fusion, Eckert jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag from his outside front row berth leading all 50-laps on his way to the record setting performance

Eckert felt pressure from Tim McCreadie while racing in heavy lapped traffic from lap 28 to lap 32 and again after a lap 46 restart but was up to the challenge holding off McCreadie by 1.15 seconds.

Clint Smith finished third and was in the mix for the lead while racing in traffic and made a bid on McCreadie for second with two to go. Pole sitter Darrell Lanigan rode home fourth with Shane Clanton rounding out the top five. Billy Moyer finished sixth followed by 16th starting Skip Arp in seventh. John Blankenship came home eighth after starting 19th with Steve Francis ninth and 15th starting Eddie Carrier Jr. tenth.

" I love this place", said a very happy Eckert from COESfx Victory Lane. "Everytime I come here it’s great racing. You got to race here. There’s no chance it’s going to be easy so you have to race hard. There at the end of the race my crew chief Robbie Allen was telling me McCreadie was on me. And, the car wanted to push the right front off. I raced as hard as I could. It was another good race track. You could pass in the heats and you could pass in the feature. That’s cool."

Eckert also gave a lot of thanks to the people that have helped him on his hot streak. "I’ve got to thank my car owner Raye Vest. Raye’s in St. Martin listening on the DIRT Radio Network. We couldn’t do this without him. Robbie Allen my crew chief and Dustin our crew guy and all the other people who help out. My wife Kristal and daughter Cortney. Rocket Chassis, Cornett Engines, Hoosier Tires, and all the other sponsors and product sponsors. It’s because of them."

McCreadie was happy with his performance aboard the Sweeteners Plus/A and C Speedworld/Texaco-Havoline No. 39 Coffey-McCreadie Enterprises, Inc. Rocket Chassis/C.C. Performance Engines/Pontiac Grand Prix but was a bit frustrated with another second place finish.

"Man, is that guy (Eckert) hot or what!?", said McCreadie. "That’s seven wins for him now and we haven’t gotten one yet. I think I’ve finished second in four or five of his seven wins. I’ve seen the back of his car so much I can tell you exactly what set-up their using. My hats off to Rick and Robbie and the guys. They’ve found something that is working and Rick is driving great. I’m happy for them.

I know I shouldn’t be complaining because since we got our motor program turned around we’ve been running great. We’re there. We just haven’t been able to get one yet. Sweeteners Plus, A and C Speedworld, Texaco-Havoline and all of the people behind us have been great. I’m fortunate to be in this position. But, man it get’s frustrating. I thought I had a couple of shots at Rick but he and the car are just on now. We’re happy with the second but I want a win."

Smith could only shake his head and chuckle when asked about Eckert’s recent domination. "It seems like the rest of us are trying to get dialed in and Rick is the dial right now", said Smith. "Them boys have found something that is working and Rick is driving phenomenal. My congratulations to them."

The driver of the JP Drilling/CSR Aluminum/Turkey Creek Snacks No. 44 Smith/Passmore Racing GRT Race Cars/Racetek Racing Engines/Pontiac GTO was satisfied with his third place finish. "We had a good race car tonight. Not as good as Rick but we could stay with him and Tim in the traffic. Tim went to the top after that late race caution and I was able to get underneath of him with two to go but he carried that momentum by me. It’s good to run well here at a place I like."

Eckert set sail at the drop of the green flag leading Lanigan, Smith, McCreadie and Moyer at he end of the first lap. Smith worked his way past Lanigan for second on lap four but lost the position to McCreadie who blasted past both Lanigan and Smith on a lap 7 restart.

With 10 laps down Eckert held a five car length lead on McCreadie. Moyer slipped past Lanigan for fifth but Lanigan regained the spot five circuits later. By the halfway point Eckert held the lead by a wide margin over McCreadie and Smith with Lanigan fourth and Moyer fifth. Clanton sat sixth trailed by Carrier Jr., Dale McDowell, Chub Frank, Francis and Arp.

Eckert caught the back of the field on lap 28 allowing McCreadie to pull within a car length of the leader. Eckert worked his way past the traffic but at lap 30 McCreadie was all over Eckert as Smith and Lanigan joined in the battle. Eckert had just slipped past Ricky Williams while working lap 32 when Williams car suddenly pulled up causing McCreadie to lift off the throttle giving Eckert some breathing room. At the same time McDowell suddenly dropped from the race.

By lap 40 Eckert had cleared traffic and extended his lead over McCreadie to five car lengths. Eckert saw his lead dwindle to three car lengths by lap 45 and one lap later the caution would wave as Eric Jacobsen slowed with a blown left rear tire.

With the field tightened up for the restart Eckert got a great restart pulling out to two car lead over McCreadie. Lap 47 saw McCreadie shoot to the outer groove of E.A.M.S. and pull to within the right rear quarter-panel of Eckert. Smith then shot underneath of McCreadie on lap 48. With McCreadie busy with Smith, Eckert was able to pull out to a three car length advantage on the final lap for the record setting win.

When asked if he could keep the string going at Stateline Speedway in Busti, New York July 1 Eckert said, "We’ll be ready. Don’t worry about that. We’ll be ready. You know things have just been going our way. Look what happened in the heat race when I jumped the start. The other heat race starts by the pole cars were great and I just got a little too pumped up. I jumped the start. Plain and simple. I had to drop back a row and we worked our way to second which put is in the dash. We ran second there and got the outside pole. We’ll just keep riding this streak as long as we can."

Eckert’s recent win streak has put him into a tie with McCreadie in the point standings for the 2006 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Championship. Defending champion Billy Moyer sits third only 6-points behind the co-leaders. Darrell Lanigan is fourth 18-points behind with Steve Francis fifth 22-points behind and Shane Clanton sixth 28-points behind.

McCreadie topped the 27-car field in time trials with his fast lap of 15.18 seconds around the high-banked 3/8ths mile oval. Heat race wins fell to Moyer, Lanigan and Clanton. The ‘B’ Main went to Blankenship and Lanigan scored the pole dash win.

NOTES:

Dale McDowell suffered a blown engine during the warm up session. McDowell accepted Clint Smith’s offer of using the back-up JP Drilling/CSR Aluminum/Turkey Creek Snacks No. 44 Passmore/Smith Racing GRT Race Cars/Racetek Racing Engines/GTO for the remainder of the program.

Time trials were rough for a trio of drivers. Brandon Rose, the first driver to qualify, flew off the turn three banking on his second time trial lap blasting into the retaining barrier. Rose was uninjured but the same couldn’t be said for his car. Rose’s first time trial lap was fast enough to give him a provisional starting spot in the main event.

Three cars after Rose, Darrell Lanigan sailed off of turn three during his second time trial lap in almost the exact spot as Rose.

Eight cars later William Thomas sailed off the turn one banking just after taking the green flag. Thomas’ car flipped on landing. The youngster was uninjured but his car was done for the night.

Rick Eckert Rolls To Third Consecutive World of Outlaws Late Model Series Win

Madisonville, Ky. — June 16, 2006 — By Chris Dolack, VP Public Relations - With one of the biggest crowds in the history of Western Kentucky Speedway looking on Friday night, Rick Eckert drove around Darrell Lanigan and pulled away to win the Western Kentucky 50 for his sixth World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory of the season.

Eckert also made history by driving the Raye Vest Excavating/J&J Steel No. 24 Raye Vest Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Ford Fusion into the COESfx Victory Lane for the third consecutive event, tying a mark shared by Tim McCreadie and Steve Francis and picking up another $10,000 for his effort. In addition, the win was the 13th overall in Eckert’s career with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, which ties him with Scott Bloomquist.

Lanigan, who captured the pole by winning the dash aboard the Gotta Race/Accu-tek Graphics No. 29 Lanigan Autosports Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Ford Taurus, got the early jump in the 50-lap event and was smoothly pulling away through traffic when two cautions waved before the halfway point of the feature. Eckert and McCreadie had been waging a side-by-side duel for much of the first 20 laps with Dale McDowell powering his way into the mix to hang in the top five after starting on the outside pole.

Lanigan’s right rear tire was losing air pressure and shortly after the restart, Eckert and McCreadie ganged up on him. Eckert found a groove along the cushion on Lap 21 that carried his machine around Lanigan and to the lead on the 3/8-mile oval.

From there, Eckert was careful not to make a mistake. With McCreadie and Lanigan battling for second, Eckert continued to pull away. By the time McCreadie worked around Lanigan, it was too late to catch Eckert. McCreadie settled for second piloting the Sweeteners Plus/Texaco-Havoline No. 39 Coffey-McCreadie Enterprises, Inc. Rocket Chassis/C.C. Performance Engines/Pontiac Grand Prix with McDowell sliding the J&J Steel/Hennessey Rental Tools No. 17M DMR, Inc. Rocket/Shaw Chassis/Racete Racing Engines/Pontiac GTO kinto third and leaving Lanigan in fourth.

"Once you get in front, you get clean racetrack until you get to traffic," said Eckert, of York, Pa. "I did hit a lapped car. I was dedicated to the top. It was the only place I could run. If I had to go across the bottom, I had to slide in there. I did clip that one lapped car. After the race I waved at him and he was like, ‘No big deal.’ But if you’re leading, you hate to sit behind a lapped car and give it away. I just drove as hard as I could. I got out front and had a nice rhythm going, real wide. I tried not to hit the wall, and I don’t think I did but I was awful close a few times. I kept listening for it to touch and it didn’t touch. As long as it didn’t touch, we were in good shape."

Eckert no doubt is proud of the milestones he achieved Friday night.

"I’ve raced a long time," Eckert said. "This is why everybody races, to win. Not one of those guys came here to run second. I know that may sound cocky, but I’m not being cocky or arrogant. Every racer leaves his shop hoping to have a shot at winning by the end of the night. It’s worked out well for us. Lately we’ve made the right changes at the right time. We had it screwed up there in the dash and we went back in and worked on it again and our car was definitely better in the race than it was in the dash."

In the early going, with Lanigan running away, Eckert and McCreadie brought the crowd to its feet with thrilling side-by-side, back-and-forth action.

"That’s a lot of fun because me and Timmy are really good friends," Eckert said. "He left me plenty of room when I was outside of him and I left him room when he was outside of me and we just raced. At one point I drove by him and I thought it’s OK on the bottom but I just couldn’t go down there any more. Then he got by me and I was like, ‘Well, I’m going to search around.’ I ran the top and I thought I found something in the corner in Turns 1 and 2 right before the caution came out. Then he picked the bottom and I thought, ‘This is my shot.’ I didn’t know if that turn would hold me. I just drove in there and it held."

And it left McCreadie to battle with Lanigan and McDowell after Eckert continued to extend his advantage every lap by racing higher and higher with each circuit.

"Rick had a better car after the restart," said McCreadie, of Watertown, N.Y. "I kind of died a little bit and that was it. He got up on the wheel and was going better than we were. It seems like this year it’s where we’re destined to run. When we’re good enough to be out front we’re second. We just need to figure out one adjustment to get a little bit better. I thought we were good, but the first 20 laps don’t mean much. It’s the last 20 that get you where you need to go. I’m happy for our race team. We’re in one piece and kept the motor together for a change."

McCreadie and Lanigan then battled each other for a while, allowing Eckert to open more of a lead.

"Darrell and I raced really hard together," McCreadie said. "It’s a pleasure to race with him and Rick. They’re class acts. Believe me, Darrell and I didn’t want to run side-by-side, but neither of us was good enough to get all the way by. That was the biggest issue. Rick’s car was good enough to do it quick and when he’s in a rhythm, he’s hard to beat no matter where he’s racing. It’s just true with our series that we have guys who are that good. We won the most races last year and now we can’t win any. It just goes to show how hard everybody worked over the winter, how hard Eckert’s team has worked because they’re really rolling now and Darrell got his stuff up front last week. We’re there, we just need a little adjustment. We can’t be sad with second because we’re in one piece and in the big scheme of things it means a lot."

McDowell worked his way to a top-three finish with a late surge on Lanigan, who by that point was just trying to hold on with a right rear tire nearly flat.

"The first part of the race, I thought I was going to get by Darrell on the outside, but everybody on the bottom was throwing loose dirt and I stayed up there a little too long," said McDowell, of Chickamauga, Ga. "It allowed Timmy and Rick to get by me and it put me on the bottom on a restart so I had to work my way up through there. With that class of cars, you don’t generally drive by somebody so when I got clear of [fifth-place running] Eddie Carrier and clear of Lanigan, I came right to McCreadie, but the race was over. We’ve been struggling a little this year so maybe it’s a sign of making gains.

Lanigan, the last driver to win since Eckert’s streak got rolling, was disappointed he couldn’t hang on to win, but ultimately pleased his tire held up as long as it did.

"The caution didn’t really bother me, but when we had that caution we had a flat right rear tire," said Lanigan, of Union, Ky. "When we went green, the car wouldn’t roll over and it got loose on me. When we pulled in after the race, it had about two pounds in it. Our car has been good. We were good enough to win and should have won if we didn’t have that problem. We’ll take a top-five and go on."

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will roll Sunday into East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala., for the Father’s Day 50.

Eckert Takes Second In A Row With World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Stop At Deer Creek!

SPRING VALLEY, Minnesota – June 1, 2006 - Rick Eckert of York, Pennsylvania is starting to make a habit of visiting the ‘COESfx Victory Lane’ after a World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned main event. For the second straight race and fifth overall during the 2006 season ‘Scrub’ again found himself on top after winning a very thrilling ‘27th Featherlite Trailers Gopher 50’ Thursday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota. Starting from the pole aboard the Raye Vest Excavating/J&J Steel No. 24 Raye Vest Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Ford Fusion Eckert had to work hard for the win. Eckert worked his way past 2005 ‘Gopher 50’ winner Darrell Lanigan on lap 43 when Lanigan’s car slid up the track in turn two and then raced away to a .526 second margin of victory.

Lanigan of Union, Kentucky powered past early race leader Tim McCreadie on lap 23 restart opening up a sizeable margin driving the Gotta Race/Accu-Tek/VP Racing Fuels No. 29 Lanigan Autosports Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Ford Taurus. Lanigan saw his lead dwindle when he hit some holes in the track surface forcing his car to slide up the race track. Eckert kept the pressure on Lanigan and jumped on the opportunity when Lanigan hit a turn two hole forcing him up the race track giving Eckert the lead.

McCreadie of Watertown, New York looked to be on a mission opening up a huge margin on the field piloting the Sweeteners Plus/Texaco-Havoline No. 39 Coffey-McCreadie Enterprises, Inc. Rocket Chassis/C.C. Performance Parts/Pontiac Grand Prix. ‘T-Mac’ led from the drop of the green flag until a lap 22 caution. With a broken fifth-coil suspension part McCreadie could only watch as both Lanigan and Eckert blew past him on that restart. McCreadie manhandled his disabled mount to a third place finish.

Shane Clanton brought the RSD Enterprises/SAE Parts No. 25 Ronnie Dobbins Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines/Pontiac GTO home in fourth while defending WoO Late Model Series champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, Arkansas finished fifth driving the J&J Steel/Banner Valley Hauling/McCarthy’s One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning No. 21 Billy Moyer Racing C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.

Twelfth starting Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pennsylvania finished sixth aboard the Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber/All Star Performance No. 1* Chub Frank Racing Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Georgia brought the J&J Steel/Hennessey Rental Tools/New Vision Graphics No. 17M DMR, Inc. Rocket-Shaw Chassis/RaceTek Engines/Pontiac GTO from thirteenth starting spot to seventh.

Steve Francis of Ashland, Kentucky placed eighth driving the MOPAR Performance Parts/Valvoline/Freeport Recycling No. 15 Francis Motorsports Rocket Chassis/Stanton Engines/Dodge Charger. Ninth spot went to Josh Richards of Shinnston, West Virginia piloting the Seubert Calf Ranches/ACE Metal Works/MCB Motorsports No. 1 Mark Richards Racing Enterprises, Inc. Rocket Chassis/Cornett Race Engines/Pontiac GTO. Rounding out the top ten finishers was Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wisconsin aboard the Amsoil/Hood Equipment No. 2 Big Red Motorsports MasterSbilt Race Cars/Pro Power Racing/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.

When asked if he was waiting for opening to make the move on Lanigan for the lead Eckert related, "No. I was dogging him as hard as I could dog him. I was trying to make Darrell make a mistake. He just caught that one hole wrong. Before that he was hitting the hole with his left front and left rear and driving away from me down the straightaway. Then he got in there a bit low and hit it with his right front and it unsettled his car and washed it up the track. That’s why I kept trying to show myself to him. I didn’t think I could pass him and I thought if I keep showing myself he might bobble. He did and it worked out great for us."

Lanigan was disappointed with the outcome but still was happy with his performances over the past few races. "It was close to making it two in a row here", said Lanigan. "We just hit that hole wrong one too many times and got the car upset too many times. We just came up short. But, I’m happy with our performances lately. We’ve raced some tracks where we’ve been pretty good and that helps. The car has really been good though."

McCreadie knew he was a sitting duck on the lap 22 restart. "I felt the fifth-coil break around lap 20 and then when that caution flew I knew I was in trouble", related McCreadie. "But, that’s racing. The car was awfully, awfully good early in the race and I thought if I keep my head we’d win this thing. Oh well. We’ll take the third and move on to the next one."

Eckert and Lanigan brought the 26 car starting field to the green flag with McCreadie immediately grabbing the lead over Eckert, Smith, Moyer and Lanigan. McCreadie quickly pulled away from the field opening up a nearly straightaway length lead by lap 6. Lanigan flew past Moyer for fourth on lap 7 and then powered into third on lap 9. Up front McCreadie was making a shambles of the race slicing through the slower cars with ease.

By lap 15 McCreadie was in his own zip code holding a nearly 4 second lead on Eckert and Lanigan with Smith fourth and Moyer fifth trailed by Clanton, John Blankenship, Francis, Jimmy Mars and Frank. Clanton suddenly found the fast line blowing past Moyer on lap 19 before notching Smith for fourth one lap later.

Mars lost the handle exiting turn two on lap 22 spinning to a stop to bring out the first caution. On the double-file restart behind the leader McCreadie, both Lanigan and Eckert shot past to take the first and second spots. The race stayed green with hard racing throughout the pack until the caution waved again at lap 41 when Garrett Durrett rolled to a stop with a blown right reat tire.

Lanigan did all he could to keep Eckert behind him on the restart but the pressure from Eckert caused Lanigan to move down a groove to protect against the advances of Eckert. Entering turn two Lanigan caught the hole wrong shoving his car up the track which opened the door for Eckert to snare the lead and eventual win.

Concerning the race track itself Eckert echoed the sentiments of his fellow drivers stating, "This is an excellent race track. We came here for the first time last year and people we talked with said the surface wasn’t very good. Last year Darrell won and it was a heck of a race! We come back here this year and these people running and working this track (owner Randy Queensland and his staff) did more throughout the program to give us a great race track than any track we’ve been too. You could run clear out against the wall or clear down against the bottom and it was three wide between that! It got slick and for us guys that makes for great racing. A lot of people will say ‘You started from the pole so that must’ve been a boring race’. Believe me that was no boring race.

"The place was almost packed with fans and I’m sure they feel they got a good race. It’s just really nice to come to a track where they feed you a steak dinner (courtesy of the Blooming Prairie Lions Club) and bend over backwards to accommodate us and help us anyway they can. To win this race and get my name on the tee-shirt really means a lot. I can’t wait to get back here in July."

The World Of Outlaws will return to Deer Creek Speedway July 28 and July 29 for two separate events paying $10,000 to win for the 50 lap main events. The cameras of SPEED were on hand to capture all the exciting action of the ‘27th Featherlite Trailers Gopher 50’ and will air the event Sunday, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. EDT.

The $45,000 purse event attracted 47 drivers to the high-banked 3/8ths mile speedplant with 28 drivers under the old one-lap track record bested by Moyer’s fast lap of 14.638 seconds at an average speed of 92.226 MPH. Heat race wins fell to Moyer, McCreadie, Eckert and Smith while the twin ‘B’ Mains fell to Eddie Carrier Jr.® and Andrew McKay. Eckert earned the pole for the main event by winning the dash race.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will next be in action Friday, June 16 at Western Kentucky Speedway in Madisonville (Nebo), Kentucky before traveling to East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama Sunday, June 18.

Eckert Nabs World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Debut At North Central Speedway!

BRAINERD, Minnesota – May 31, 2006 - Rick Eckert of York, Pennsylvania nabbed his fourth World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned main event of the season Wednesday pocketing $10,000 for his win in the ‘North Central 50’ at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota. Eckert, driving the Raye Vest Excavating/J&J Steel No. 24 Raye Vest Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Ford Fusion, started sixth in the main event and steadily worked his way to the front. ‘Scrub’ grabbed the lead from Steve Francis with a turn four outside pass to lead lap 29 and then pulled away from Francis to take the win by 1.839 seconds and earn his fourth trip of the 2006 season to the ‘COESfx Victory Lane’.

Francis of Ashland, Kentucky led the first 9 circuits of the event and again from laps 26 to 28 aboard the MOPAR Performance Parts/Valvoline/Freeport Recycling No. 15 Steve Francis Racing Rocket Chassis/Stanton Racing Engines/Dodge Charger. Pole sitter Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pennsylvania brought the Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber/All Star Performance No. 1* Chub Frank Racing Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS home third.

Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Georgia powered the J&J Steel/Hennessey Rental Tools/New Vision Graphics No. 17M DMR, Inc. Rocket-Shaw Chassis/RaceTek Engines/Pontiac GTO to fourth at the finish after starting fourteenth. Clint Smith of Senoia, Georgia finished fifth driving the JP Drilling/CSR Aluminum/Turkey Creek Snacks No. 44 Smith-Passmore Racing GRT Race Cars/RaceTek Engines/Pontiac GTO.

Sixth spot fell to John Blankenship of Williamson, West Virginia piloting the Busch Beer/Walker CAT No. 23 Team 23, Inc. Rocket Chassis/Pro Power Racing/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. Justin Fegers of Mound, Minnesota came from the 23rd starting position to finish seventh driving the SunRay’s Tanning Center No. F15 Justin Fegers Racing MasterSbilt Race Cars/Tesar Racing Engines/Pontiac GTO.

2005 World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Rookie of the Year’ Josh Richards of Shinnston, West Virginia crossed the finish line in eighth aboard the Seubert Calf Ranches/ACE Metal Works/MCB Motorsports No. 1 Mark Richards Racing Enterprises Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Pontiac GTO. Defending WoO Late Model Series champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, Arkansas placed ninth after starting 13th driving the J&J Steel/Banner Valley Hauling/McCarthy’s One Hour Heating and Air No. 21 Billy Moyer Racing C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. Rounding out the top ten was Darrell Lanigan of Union, Kentucky driving the Gotta Race/Accu-Tek/VP Racing Fuels No. 29 Lanigan Autosports Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Ford Taurus.

When asked if he was happy with four wins through eleven rounds of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series season Eckert related, "I sure am happy with it. We either win or run bad. We’ve got to get the ‘run bad’ part of it out of our system. But, as long as we keep winning that will over ride the bad runs".

Eckert also said that he wasn’t biding his time before making the winning pass saying, "I wasn’t waiting. Earlier in the race when Shane (Clanton) was leading Steve would choose the bottom for the restarts. I really thought that was a bad choice on his behalf because it allowed me to work my way up to him. Then when Shane got the flat tire and Steve regained the lead he went to the bottom on the restart and left the outside wide open. I just floated around him on the outside on that restart. I couldn’t run down there on the bottom because my car was too loose. And it seemed like the guys running the bottom couldn’t move up either. I really didn’t know what was going on but it worked well for us."

Eckert also had high praises for the track surface which was continually worked on throughout the racing program after a 45 minute shower delayed the start of the event by nearly an hour. "It was an excellent race track tonight", said Eckert. "You could race all over it. There was three grooves and you could race anyplace on the track you wanted too. It’s like McCreadie (Tim) said earlier tonight. ‘The owner (Cliff Sasker) and promoter (Peggy Jensen) could have said you got what you got’ but they kept working at it and gave us an excellent track."

Frank and Francis brought the field to Kevin Jones green flag with Francis grabbing the early race lead over Frank, Brady Smith, Eckert and Clanton. Clanton powered into fourth on lap 3 and then swept into second on lap 6 as Eddie Carrier Jr. moved into fifth. One lap later Frank regained the second spot from Clanton only to see Clanton grab it back one lap later.

Francis had his hands full with Clanton trying to keep the lead but Clanton raced past Francis exiting turn four to lead lap 10. One lap later the red flag would fly. Terry Casey pounded the frontchute wall off of turn four with Trent Follmer trying to avoid Casey. Heavy contact between the two sent Follmer flying into the air flipping once before landing on his wheels just past the flagstand. Follmer emerged from his destroyed race car unscathed but his car was a write-off. Casey also suffered heavy damage and like Follmer was unhurt in the grinding crash.

After a nearly 15 minute delay to remove both Follmer’s and Casey’s cars and clean up the carnage the race resumed. Clanton held the lead with Francis second then Frank, Carrier Jr. and Eckert followed by B. Smith, Richards, C. Smith, Blankenship and Eric Jacobsen.

Eckert had worked his way into fourth by lap 15 and then took third from Frank on lap 20. Clanton began to get a flat left rear tire at the halfway mark with Francis moving past Clanton one lap later to regain the lead. Caution would fly on lap 27 as Clanton limped to a stop with the flat tire.

Eckert quickly went to work on Francis once the race resumed sailing into the lead at lap 29. Another caution on lap 30 for the spinning cars of Joey Jensen and Steve ‘Ace’ Ihm slowed the pace. Eckert held the top spot for the restart with Francis second, Frank third, Richards fourth and McDowell fifth. Eckert began to put some distance on his pursuers through lap 44 when the caution would wave again when B. Smith caught the turn two outside wall dropping him from the race. The final 6 circuits was all Eckert as a broken header on Francis’ car kept ‘The Kentucky Colonel’ from mounting a late race charge.

31 drivers entered the $45,000 event with Fegers setting quick time at 15.309 seconds at an average speed of 78.307 MPH. Heat race wins fell to Francis, Brady Smith and Frank. John Seitz grabbed the ‘B’ Main while Frank earned the pole for his win in the dash.

World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Headed For Missouri With Tight Points Race!

NORMAN, Okla. – May 15, 2006 The stars and cars of the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series will travel to the state of Missouri for a first time ever appearance at Bolivar Speedway USA in Bolivar, Missouri. The $10,000 to win ‘Bank of Bolivar 50’ unfolds Tuesday, May 23 at the high-banked 3/8ths mile clay oval. With inclement weather forcing postponement of the May 12 and May 13 events the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series drivers and race teams will be chomping at the bit to continue the quest for the 2006 Championship.

Current championship point leader Tim McCreadie of Watertown, New York enters the ‘Bank of Bolivar 50’ with a 16-point margin over Ashland, Kentucky native Steve Francis. McCreadie, despite not visiting the ‘COESfx Victory Lane’ yet in 2006, has parlayed four Top 5 finishes and eight Top 10 finishes in eight completed events to the championship point lead driving the Sweeteners Plus/A and C Speedworld/Texaco-Havoline No. 39 Coffey-McCreadie Enterprises, Inc. Rocket Chassis/C.C. Performance/Pontiac Grand Prix. Francis, who lost the 2005 World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Championship on a tie-breaker, has powered the MOPAR Performance Parts/Valvoline/Freeport Recycling No. 15 Steve Francis Motorsports Rocket Chassis/Stanton Racing Engines Dodge Charger to two wins, four Top 5’s and six Top 10’s during the 2006 campaign. Defending World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, Arkansas enters the ‘Bank of Bolivar 50’ third in the championship point standings but only 20-points behind McCreadie. Moyer has driven the J&J Steel/Banner Valley Hauling/McCarthy’s One Hour Heating and Air No. 21 Billy Moyer Racing C.J. Rayburn Race Cars/Pro Power Racing/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to three Top 5 finishes in 2006 and joins McCreadie as the only two drivers with Top 10 finishes in all eight events completed. The ‘Bank of Bolivar 50’ will surely toss the championship point standings around as a tight points race not only for the 2006 Championship but position in the standings is very close. Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Georgia currently holds down the number four slot in the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series standings only 32-points behind McCreadie. Clanton has driven the RSD Enterprises/SAE Parts No. 25 Ronnie Dobbins Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS to four Top 5’s and six Top 10’s. Holding down the fifth spot and only 38-points behind the point leader is Darrell Lanigan of Union, Kentucky. Driving the Gotta Race/Accu-Tek/VP Racing Fuels No. 29 Lanigan Autosports Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines Ford Taurus Lanigan has tallied three Top 5 finishes and seven Top 10 finishes through the early season.

Bear Lake, Pennsylvania pilot Chub Frank has made one trip to the ‘COESfx Victory Lane’ aboard the Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber/All-Star Performance No. 1* Chub Frank Racing Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines/Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and holds down the sixth spot in points only 54 markers behind McCreadie. Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Georgia and Rick Eckert of York, Pennsylvania hold the seventh and eighth spots in the championship standings and are definitely in the hunt to make a move in the points when the ‘Bank of Bolivar 50’ unfolds. McDowell, who drives the Larry Shaw Race Cars/J&J Steel/Hennessey Rental Tools No. 17M DMR, Inc. Rocket-Shaw Chassis/RaceTek Engines/Pontiac GTO, is only 56-points out of the points lead. Eckert, with two early season victory’s driving the Raye Vest Excavating/J&J Steel/Hoosier Tire No. 24 Raye Vest Rocket Chassis/Cornett Racing Engines/Ford Fusion, finds himself only 58-points behind McCreadie. The ‘Bank of Bolivar 50’ will mark the first ever appearance of the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series to Bolivar Speedway USA. Mix in that fact along with strong competition from regional racers and the local hotshoes the drama played out on the clay stage should be nothing short of exciting! Bonus Bucks Added For World Of Outlaws Late Model Series At Brushcreek And Wayne County!

NORMAN, Okla. – May 1, 2006 - Anytime the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series visits a racetrack the ‘local/regional stars’ have incentive to protect their turf against what is considered the top dirt Late Model drivers and race teams in the country. The ‘local/regional stars’ will have added incentive this weekend as bonus money has been posted explicitly for them and them only when the nations premiere dirt Late Model sanctioning body visits Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in Pebbles, Ohio and Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio Friday and Saturday respectively.

Both the ‘Barry Chevrolet – Buick, Inc. 50’ at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex and the ‘Buckeye Classic 50’ at Wayne County Speedway offer $10,000 to the winner from the $45,000 purse. Not bad by any standard. What ‘local/regional star’ wouldn’t want that $10,000 check in their pocket? It’s a big incentive to perform well.

Now throw in a $5,000 bonus at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex and a $1,000 bonus at Wayne County Speedway for a ‘local/regional star’ and the stakes grow even higher. Call it a reward for the ‘local/regional star’ if you will but one thing is certain. For a ‘local/regional star’ the incentive to perform well against the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series drivers and race teams got even bigger.

The high-banked 3/8ths mile clay tri-oval of Brushcreek Motorsports Complex presents a challenge to man and machine. The ‘wicked fast’ speeds turned on the unique speedway are daunting whether a ‘national star’ driver with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series or a ‘local/regional star’.

Heed the words of World Of Outlaws Late Model Series Championship point leader Tim McCreadie of Watertown, New York about the speeds generated at the tri-oval:

“We go to a lot of places that claim ‘The Fastest Half-Mile In The Country’ or ‘Fastest High-Banked 3/8ths Mile In The World’. At Brushcreek they wrote ‘Wicked Fast’ on the wall. They got that one right. They definitely got that one right!”

True, the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series drivers and race teams may have an edge in skill and equipment but the ‘local/regional star’ has track time. Something usually more valuable than anything in motorsports.

If a non-World Of Outlaws Late Model Series driver, a ‘local/regional star’, can use that track time and pull the upset win in the ‘Barry’s Chevrolet – Buick, Inc. 50’ at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex they will pocket an additional $5,000 bonus courtesy of Jesus Motorsports Outreach and Southern Hills Therapy Service.

Bonus money will also be up for grabs at Wayne County Speedway when the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series makes their inaugural visit to the semi-banked 3/8ths mile dirt oval. The highest finishing driver in the final rundown of the ‘Buckeye Classic 50’ who upon entering the event is currently not in the top 20 points of any national touring dirt Late Model series nor has never won a World Of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned main event will receive a $1,000 bonus for their efforts.

With a reputation of having one of the strongest contingents of ‘local/regional stars’ competing weekly at the Orrville oval that $1,000 bonus could go to just about anyone. World Of Outlaws Late Model Series regular Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pennsylvania has an outstanding record in past big events at Wayne County Speedway but knows he and the rest of his Outlaw brethren will have their hands full with the ‘local/regional stars’ Saturday.

“Well (laughs), it was a little bit different then,” chuckled the popular star driver. “The set up we were running back then, we aren’t running it any more so it will be a little bit different going in there and trying to beat those guys. Even though it is the same guys we raced against before, like Doug (Drown), Ryan (Markham), (J.R.) Gentry, (Rick) Bond, (Eric) Spud (Myers), (Charlie) Duncan and those guys, since the Hav-A-Tampa deal, everyone down there has picked their programs up a little bit. They race each other every week so they had to pick their programs up so they can be competitive. So if you’re off just a little bit right now, you won’t be in the top five. You have to have it on the money and I think that’s what is going to happen at Wayne County. Anytime you go to that racetrack, and most racetracks, there are always at least four or five, six guys who can run with us. The biggest advantage for us is qualifying. They’ll be tough because they will want to perform well at their home racetrack.”

Doug Drown of Wooster, Ohio and the defending 2005 Wayne County Speedway track champion won’t miss the ‘Buckeye Classic 50’ and the chance at a $1,000 bonus, and neither will most of his most ardent fellow competitors.

“That’s the one thing we’ve all been wanting and I can say for sure (Eric) Spud (Myers), Ryan (Markham) and myself, we talked about it, and I know a bunch of the other guys feel the same way,” commented Drown. “Last year all three of us were running strong and we wished there was a big race there at WCS so we could see how we stacked up on that track. Chet (Alexander), J.R. (Gentry), Rick Bond, Clint Coffman, a lot of people have new equipment this year so there could be a whole new group of guys up front this year for this race.”

“Those guys (World of Outlaws Late Model Series) will have their hands full, that’s for sure. The guys around here, they don’t like to put their tail between their legs and go hide, we like to stay off the porch and slug it out with them. And we want to support what they’re doing.”

“I think as long as that track is prepped the way it has been in the past I think people will see a great show. I don’t think there are any other series races that night so I think we might see a couple of other series guys there as well. It’s going to be a hell of a show. For $25 it will be well worth getting in the gate, especially when you put the locals into the mix.”

Sound’s as though the ‘local/regional stars’ are ready for the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series.
