Gibson Makes it Two in a Row,
Wins Championship Columbus, Ohio (August 12, 2006) – Not only did Zach Gibson clinch the Winged Sprints on Asphalt championship by winning the twenty-five lap feature event at Columbus on Saturday, but he did so by holding off his father, Larry, to become the first son/father duo to finish 1-2 in WSoA history. At the drop of the green, it was pole sitter Christopher Myers jumping out the early lead. Myers remained unchallenged until lap five when he got sideways coming out of turn four, allowing Chad Livingston and Larry Gibson to catch up. By lap seven Larry Gibson had gotten by Livingston and Myers to over take the top spot. On lap twelve Larry Gibson encountered lapped traffic allowing his son Zach, who had over taken second from Myers, to close in on Larry. The only yellow of the evening would fly on lap fifteen as Matt Ferrell spun out in front of traffic. When the green flag came back out, it was a father/son battle for first, as Zach was putting the pressure on his dad for the lead. By the time to duo came back to the flagstand to complete lap sixteen, Zach had over taken the lead. Where he would remain unchallenged for the remainder of the event. Behind Zach Gibson, was father Larry – with an impressive run as this was his first race in two and a half years. Third place went to Chad Livingston, followed by another Gibson, Terry and Frank Neill rounded out the top five. Fast time went to Terry Gibson with a lap of 12.305 seconds.
